Islamabad, The Pakistani fishing industry has emerged as a significant point of interest for Chinese investors, as per recent discussions at the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI). The industry's potential for growth was highlighted during a meeting at the PCJCCI Secretariat, where the expansion of Pakistan's seafood exports to China was a key topic.

According to Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the current annual seafood exports from Pakistan to China total $247.3 million, marking a 13% increase from the previous year. Moazzam Ghurki, President of PCJCCI, expressed optimism about the potential to boost these exports significantly, potentially reaching up to $600 or $700 million. The main categories of seafood exported include ribbon fish, croakers, sole fish, and cuttlefish.

Fang Yulong, Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, stated that the Pakistani fishing industry is highly attractive to Chinese investors, who are ready to bring technological advancements to Pakistan. This includes improvements in cold chain food safety to enhance product quality and export capacity. The collaboration could extend to Chinese quality experts visiting Pakistani fisheries to provide insights and recommendations.

Hamza Khalid, Vice President of PCJCCI, highlighted the need for modern cold storage facilities among Pakistani exporters, noting that seafood should be stored at temperatures between minus 18 to minus 20 degrees Celsius. He mentioned that China is keen to support Pakistani exporters in establishing flake ice factories and processing units using modern technology.

Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General of PCJCCI, added that educating fishermen and exporters is crucial for maintaining the quality of seafood. He suggested that collaborative efforts between the Chinese and Pakistani governments could include awareness programs, training, and workshops to achieve this goal.

As the Pakistani fishing industry continues to attract international attention, these developments could lead to significant economic benefits and job opportunities within the sector.
