City – Power breakdown at Dhabeji pumping station, 72-inch diameter pipeline bursts, water supply suspended to various areas of Karachi

For the fourth time in two weeks, the bursting of the 72-inch diameter main pipeline has suspended the water supply to several areas of Karachi, resulting in the waste of thousands of gallons of water.

The incident occurred on Sunday following a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station, which caused the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s Line No. 5 to burst. As a result of this failure, four pumps at the pumping station also shut down.

According to sources, this is the fourth incident of a pipeline bursting in the last fifteen days. Reports suggest that the frequent bursting of pipelines has become a routine matter, and there are allegations that substandard materials are being used in the repair work.

The Water Corporation administration has issued a statement on this crisis, confirming that repair work is underway. A spokesperson for the Water Board has assured that the work is expected to be completed within 24 hours, after which the water supply to the affected areas of the city will be restored.
