In a significant move to restore Karachi’s identity as a cultural hub, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab today directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to stage a regular series of cultural and Sufi events, aiming to rejuvenate the metropolis”s vibrant spirit.

This new endeavor is designed to celebrate the city’s multicultural soul and provide residents with opportunities for constructive recreation and social harmony. The plan seeks to restore Karachi”s former glory as the “City of Lights” and the “City of Literacy.”

The lineup of activities will feature Sufi music nights, literary assemblies, and anniversaries of great poets, along with commemorative functions honoring legendary figures of art and history. These gatherings will be hosted at iconic city landmarks such as Frere Hall, Denso Hall, and Khaliq Dina Hall.

As a symbolic start, the KMC is preparing a special tribute for the 770th anniversary of Hazrat Ameer Khusro. Known as the “Parrot of India” and the father of Qawwali, his legacy of love and tolerance deeply resonates with Karachi”s diverse cultural fabric.

“Under the vision and directives of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, KMC is going beyond infrastructure development,” stated KMC spokesperson Daniyal Siyal. “We are equally committed to providing facilities of culture, sports, and recreation for our citizens. Reviving the city’s cultural heartbeat is essential for building a progressive, inclusive, and enlightened Karachi.”

The Mayor emphasized that these cultural programs will serve as a unifying force, bringing together citizens from all walks of life to celebrate their shared heritage. By reviving spaces of learning, the administration aims to rekindle the light of knowledge, poetry, and art across the metropolis.

Through this planned cultural renaissance, the KMC envisions a brighter, more harmonious, and artistically enriched future for the people of Karachi, reawakening the city’s reputation as the heartbeat of South Asia’s cultural scene.
