Clarification Regarding Law Minister’s Absence in the Meeting of the Functional Committee on Government Assurances

Islamabad, January 10, 2019 (PPI-OT): On January 10, 2019, a number of Urdu and some English dailies carried news regarding Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Barrister Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem’s absence from a meeting of the Functional Committee on Government Assurances, held on January 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Some Urdu dailies even linked the resignation by the former Chairman Senate Mr. Raza Rabbani, from the membership of the Functional Committee, to the absence of the Law Minister. It is to clarify that on January 9, 2019, the Federal Law Minister participated in the 1st Meeting of the Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs at 2:00pm.

When the members of the Functional Committee raised objection regarding Mr. Farogh Naseem’s absence, Secretary Law Mr. Abdul Shakoor Paracha informed Chairman of the Committee, Senator Muhammad Tahir Khan Bizinjo that the Minister was tied up due to a commitment made earlier. Furthermore, the reports that Senator Raza Rabbani resigned from the membership of the Functional Committee on Government Assets is factually incorrect since the Senator was never a member of the said Committee and was not present during the meeting.
