Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s sister, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, has revealed that internationally acclaimed human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith, whose professional fee is reportedly three thousand dollars per hour, is fighting for her sister’s release without any charge.

Speaking as the chief guest at a prayer ceremony on Saturday, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, who is also the chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement, insisted that her sister is innocent and just a Pakistani citizen. She added that Mr. Smith is now appealing for moral support from the Government of Pakistan in this case.

This prayer ceremony for the early release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was organized by Jamiat-ul-Quresh Pakistan at its center in North Karachi.

During their address, Pasban Democratic Party’s Vice Chairman Azam Minhas and Karachi President Abdul Hakim Quaid expressed their party’s commitment to continue the struggle alongside the Aafia Movement until Dr. Aafia’s return home.

Jamiat-ul-Quresh Pakistan Chairman Shakir Aslam Qureshi, who presided over the ceremony, said that the Quresh community supports the efforts being made for the “daughter of the nation” and will stand with the Aafia Movement until her release. He also thanked Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui for attending.
