LARKANA: The largest teaching hospital of Upper Sindh having Rs180 Crore annual budget and special grants with 1700-bed capacity Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) is at the verge of destruction due to the posting of an inefficient and corrupt 19-Grade junior Dr. Gulzar Tunio.
This was alleged by Shahi Khan Jagirani and Zulfiqar Sahiro, president and general secretary respectively of Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association, CMCH Chapter, while addressing a press conference at Larkana Press Club on Thursday along with Ghulam Hussain Jalbani and others.
They further alleged that the CMCH emergency department has been ruined where cleanliness and other medical facilities are unavailable and only two ambulances are road worthy despite a fleet of 21 and all generators of the CMCH Blocks are dysfunctional but POL bills worth millions of rupees are continuing to be drawn.
They said that dewatering disposal motors pumps have become dysfunctional due to which overflowing sewage has become common in the colonies. FECO machine for eye operation has been dysfunctional for two months and poor patients are suffering. Diet budget has been embezzled massively as low turnout of patients was recorded during rain devastation and two-three annual budget quarters have also been utilized by him without any benefit to the poverty-ridden patients despite medicine shortage.
They further alleged that x-ray machines of Paeds Surgery and Shaikh Zayed Women Hospital are non-working as outdated machines are working everywhere. ENT OT has been destroyed where essential instruments are unavailable along with other operation theaters. They said daily wagers have not yet been regularised who are working since past 15 years on a meager amount as shortage of paramedics has worsened. They further alleged that out of 20 dialysis machines only five are working and MRI and CT scan machines are out of order since the past eight months and laboratory machines and instruments are also not working properly despite the rush.
They further alleged medicines’ tenders are made for standard companies but procurement is made from local companies which is the height of negligence and corruption for which he should be taken to task. They urged PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister and Health Minister to take immediate notice of Dr. Tunio’s mismanagement and misdeeds, order inquiry against his massive bunglings, post honest, senior and dedicated doctor as Medical Superintendent, or else, they warned, they will start a struggle from Monday against him by establishing a protest camp outside eye ward and also file a petition.
