The Meteorological Department has predicted today that a severe spell of smog is likely to prevail in the plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the morning and evening hours.
This forecast comes at a time when a cold and dry weather wave is ongoing in most parts of the country.
According to the official weather bulletin, the weather is expected to remain cold and dry in most parts of the country.
Conditions in the northern regions will be particularly severe, where temperatures will drop to intensely cold levels in the early morning and late at night.
Temperatures recorded in the morning in various urban centers included three degrees Celsius in Islamabad and two degrees in Quetta. Both Lahore and Peshawar recorded eight degrees, while Karachi remained relatively mild at fourteen degrees. In the northern areas, the mercury in Gilgit dropped to minus three degrees, while Murree and Muzaffarabad recorded four degrees Celsius.
In occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the weather is forecast to be cold and dry in Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramulla. Dry weather has also been predicted for Jammu, while Leh is expected to face severely cold weather.
Early morning temperatures in the region were zero degrees Celsius in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Shopian. Jammu recorded seven degrees, while Anantnag and Baramulla recorded one degree. Leh experienced the region’s coldest temperature, dropping to minus eight degrees Celsius.
