Commissioner holds meeting with healthcare providers of Larkana

LARKANA: A meeting of top healthcare providers of Larkana was held at Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday to know the issues faced by the authorities of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) and Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) under the chairmanship of Commissioner Ghanwar Ali Legahri which was participated by SMBBMU Registrar Prof Saeed Ahmed Shaikh, CMCH Medical Superintendent Dr. Gulzar Ali Tuinio, Larkana Regional Health Services Director Dr Rustom Ali Bhutto, relevant additional medical superintendents of various blocks of CMCH and others.

They briefed the commissioner with the help of charts about the issues faced by the doctors in properly managing the affairs of the largest tertiary care hospital of rural Sindh which is facing mismanagement, lack of diagnostic modern machinery, instruments, equipment, shortage of medicines, cleanliness and other issues.

According to a participant, the commissioner was informed that Paeds OPD is being converted into a Paeds Emergency where 1000 to 1200 patients are coming daily and OPD will be held at a hall where doctors will never be able to perform their duties of examining newborns due to rush and sizzling heat. He was also informed about the shortage of medics, paramedics and other ministerial staff as last recruitment was made in 2012 and now the situation has reached to an extent where almost two employees are retiring weekly. 92 Muslim sanitary workers were appointed previously on non-Muslim posts on political recommendation who do not perform their duties hence cleanliness issues have multiplied.

Commissioner directed all the participants to give him in writing their issues so that they could be taken up with the provincial health minister. He further directed them to take care of Mother and Child Centres, improvement in service in the wards, cleanliness and provision of all required medicines to the indoor and OPD patients. He further directed them to plant more and more trees in all the hospitals to improve the environment for which he will help them in provision of saplings.

He instructed the SMBBMU Registrar to ensure CCTV cameras at all the girls hostels and elsewhere. He said there are very good doctors in Larkana but they need to own the public sector hospitals where they should give more care and time to improve health care service delivery.
