KARACHI:After hitting Karachi hard, coronavirus has now started playing havoc in interior Sindh as the new virus cases toll rose to 369 on Friday, with Hyderabad worst-hit city.
In Hyderabad, 70 more coronavirus cases were reported today. Three doctors and two children were among the new cases. The newly infected people have been kept on isolation. The virus cases tally in the city has increased to 964, causing a challenge to the authorities to tackle the disease.
The authorities have been struggling to enforce social distancing and standard operating procedures in the city. The people visiting hospitals are allowed on the condition of masks. The banks in the city also allowing those persons who come with masks.
However, the people at many places are not observing social distancing and moving free without masks. The police and rangers are conducting patrolling across the city to ensure standard operating procedures. The people have however taken a sigh of relief after the resumption of public transport in and outside the city.
Ghotki, Sukkur and Khairpur districts with 41, 26 and 25 new cases, respectively, are the worst regions of interior Sindh after Hyderabad. Panic rules in these districts as cases are rising gradually. The people in these districts need to adopt social distancing and SOPs; otherwise, the situation may go out of control.
In Umerkot district, coronavirus cases are rising fast as six more people, including the wife and daughter of District Health Officer tested positive on Friday, taking the cases toll to 24 since the outbreak of the virus disease in February 2020.
A total of 40 people’s samples were tested out of which six were diagnosed as coronavirus positive while 34 people’s report came negative. The newly infected people have been sent into isolation. The new virus-infected people include District Health Officer Dr Allah Dad Rathor’s wife Nasreen and daughter Tuba; Hindu woman Widyapuri, Shazia, Aslam, and Azhar Hussain.
Out of the total cases emerged in Umerkot district so far, 10 were in Umerkot city, six in New Chhor, four in taluka Kunri, one each in Samaro taluka, village Khariro Syed, Kejrari and Nabi Sar. In Pano Aqil, four new cases were reported today, taking the cases toll to 35 so far since the outbreak of the disease. Six new cases have also been reported in Ranipur.
The panic ruled Larkana district as 14 more cases were reported. The easing of the lockdown could raise more cases in the district. The health authorities in the city are struggling to control the situation but the cases are rising with each passing day.
Jacobabad is also getting more cases as today 17 new cases were reported from the city. Mirpurkhas has 12 new cases; Jamshoro and Sanghar 11 each; Tando Mohammad Khan, Kashmore six each; Naushehro Feroze three; Badin, Dadu, Kambar and Shikarpur two each; Sujawal and Thatta one each.
