Federal Minister for Technical Education and prominent Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader, Sardar Amir Altaf Khan, stated that the country’s future depends on a skilled workforce. He emphasized the modernization of TEVTA (Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority), the country’s largest technical training institute. He explained that this initiative equips youth with market-relevant skills, transforming them into valuable economic contributors.
TEVTA now provides training in operating heavy machinery and other modern technologies. He stressed that these programs are not merely about obtaining certificates; they open doors to global career opportunities. He lamented the preference for traditional academic degrees over vocational skills among Pakistani youth. He said this trend has resulted in a large number of unemployed graduates, while technical experts secure lucrative jobs domestically and internationally, boosting foreign exchange reserves.
Sardar Amir Altaf Khan criticized the overemphasis on traditional education and the neglect of practical, technical training, resulting in widespread unemployment among degree holders. He expressed confidence that TEVTA offers a practical solution by providing access to technical education. Every year, thousands of graduates enter the workforce lacking practical skills and facing limited career prospects. In contrast, individuals completing technical programs from TEVTA and similar organizations quickly secure employment or start their own businesses. He emphasized the importance of skill development and information technology in today’s evolving job market.
The Federal Minister praised TEVTA’s transformation into a model institution through partnerships with modern technology companies and the recruitment of world-class instructors. He cited the improvement in the quality of courses and their alignment with global market demands, addressing the global shortage of skilled technical workers.
