Court frees journalist Imran Riaz Khan

LAHORE: Turning down police’s request for the physical remand of journalist Imran Riaz Khan, a local court in Lahore on Friday ordered release of TV anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan in a case pertaining to insulting a state institution.

Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk pronounced the reserved verdict. Earlier in the day Imran Riaz Khan was produced in the district court in the cybercrime case. Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk was requested to give physical remand of Imran Riaz Khan. Mian Ali Ashfaq Advocate argued before the court on behalf of Imran Riaz Khan.

It is to be noted here that anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan had been arrested from Lahore Airport by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) when he was about to depart for Dubai in the early hours of Thursday last. Riaz was shifted to the FIA’s Cybercrime Wing Gulberg office in Lahore. The anchorperson was not allowed to board the Dubai-bound flight due to his name in the black list. He was arrested after a case was registered against him under Cybercrime Act.
