An Additional District and Sessions Judge on Thursday reserved a verdict on petitions from Aleema Khan, sister of the former Prime Minister, who alleges that supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are being unlawfully detained and dangerously abandoned in deserted areas at night.
During the court proceedings, Ms. Khan pressed for the registration of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) against individuals purportedly involved in harassing PTI adherents outside Adiala Jail. She submitted a separate plea demanding action against those responsible for throwing an egg at her near the correctional facility.
Earlier in the day, Aleema Khan, accompanied by her sisters Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan, appeared before the Rawalpindi District Court. The siblings contended that despite explicit directives from the High Court, Imran Khan is not being given the amenities stipulated in the Jail Manual.
The sisters supplicated the court to enforce the High Court’s orders regarding the former premier’s prison conditions. They also sought judicial intervention to halt the alleged practice of detaining and abandoning family members and party proponents, and to end Mr. Khan’s isolation in compliance with the higher court’s decision.
In a separate legal development, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad extended Senator Azam Khan Swati’s interim bail until November 13. The case, registered at the Margalla Police Station, pertains to a protest that occurred on November 26.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, who presided over the hearing, was represented on Senator Swati’s behalf by jurists Sardar Masroof Khan, Zahid Bashir Dar, and Murtaza Tori. The judge observed that bail petitions for the same incident were active in two different courts and scheduled a conclusive ruling for the next hearing date.
