Daniel Pearl case: SHC announces verdict, death sentence of prime accused commuted in 7-year jail, three other accused freed

Karachi:In Daniel Pearl murder case, the Sindh High Court (SHC) here Thursday announced verdict, according to which the death sentence of prime accused was commuted in 7-year jail, while three other accused freed.

The SHC announced its verdict on the appeals filed by four convicts in this case, which was reserved last month.

A two-judge SHC bench headed by Justice Mohammad Karim Khan Agha has pronounced three of the four accused, Fahad Naseem, Salman Saqib and Sheikh Adil, ‘not guilty’ while the prime accused Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh’s death sentence was commuted in a seven-year jail term.

The verdict said that none of the accused have been proven as murderers of the slain journalist while main accused Ahmed Omer Saeed was convicted for kidnapping the deceased American journalist, belonging to The Wall Street Journal.
