DeM condemns extension in remand of Aasiya, others

Srinagar, June 08, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) has strongly condemned the extension of police remand until 21st June against the party chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, and her associates, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi.

The DeM spokesperson, Rifat Fatima, in a statement in Srinagar said that the party leaders were taken from Rambagh Women’s police station in Srinagar to Islamabad district where they were produced in a court. “Already court had sent the three leaders to police remand until June 9 but now it has been extended till June 21. Confining illegally the party leadership is not only against the human rights but a barbaric act. False cases are being invoked to keep the leaders jailed,” she said.

Rifat Fatima said, Aasiya Andrabi is a cardiac patient and is also suffering from asthma and keeping her jailed is tantamount to putting her life in danger. She said that the DeM was being deliberately targeted and extreme physical as well as psychological pressure was being exerted on the party leadership and its cadres. “The leadership is being jailed in false cases, the families of the DeM members are being harassed on daily basis. It seems that police has opened a war front against the DeM,” she added.

Rifat Fatima said that all this was being done to break the resolve of the DeM leadership and its cadre. However, she said that no matter what kind of force and brutalities were used against the DeM, its leadership and its cadre would continue the struggle till the Kashmiris achieved freedom from India’s illegal occupation of their homeland.
