A severe storm last night, featuring heavy rain and strong winds, resulted in one death and over 20 injuries in Thatta district, while causing widespread damage and paralyzing daily life.
The severe weather caused numerous incidents of mud houses and roofs collapsing. District officials confirmed today that Bachal Mallah was killed when the roof of his house collapsed in Bahara village near Mirpur Sakro. A woman was also reported injured in the same incident.
Further reports of collapsing structures were received from nearby areas. Three people, including a woman, were injured in Soomra Khaskheli and Maula Bakhsh Khaskheli villages. The total number of injured exceeded 20 in various areas, including Mirpur Sakro, Keti Bandar, Gharo, and Ghora Bari, with women and children among the casualties.
The intensity of the gale uprooted many large trees and brought down electricity poles, wires, signboards, and walls, severely disrupting normal life across the region. Consequently, the power supply from all four of the district’s grid stations has been suspended for the past 10 hours.
Urban residents also faced significant financial losses as the storm destroyed commercial properties, including paan shops, signboards, and solar plates.
In rural areas, the agricultural community suffered a severe blow. Farmers reported that the strong winds destroyed their nearly ready wheat crop, causing them heavy financial losses.
