The Deputy Commissioner of Khairpur has ordered the immediate issuance of show-cause notices to several absent and negligent local government officials, warning that their dereliction of duty is jeopardizing the crucial polio eradication campaign scheduled for next month.
During a high-level meeting on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmed Chachar expressed severe displeasure over the continuous absence of Union Council (UC) Secretaries and UCMOs. He directed that these officials be summoned immediately to explain their conduct.
Mr. Chachar said that he would formally report the irresponsible officers to the Chief Secretary of Sindh and the Secretary of Local Government and request disciplinary action. He stressed that clear instructions for implementation by local government officials during the polio campaign have already been issued by the provincial Chief Secretary.
This preparatory meeting was held at Sachal Sarmast Hall, aimed at finalizing the campaign’s micro-plan, UC boundary delineation, and mapping to be transferred to the local government system. The week-long immunization drive will run from April 13 to April 19, 2026.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to complete all pending tasks before the campaign begins. He urged all officers and health partners, including Town Health Officers (THOs) and the District Health Officer (DHO), to strengthen mutual coordination and play their part in improving the system.
Polio campaign representative Muhammad Rafi gave a detailed briefing to the participants, detailing the inclusion of the local government system in the planning process for 88 Union Councils, which includes all preparations, paperwork, and mapping.
The meeting was attended by a large number of officials including Additional Deputy Commissioner Riaz Sheikh, ADC-II Abdul Hakeem Dharejo, Assistant Commissioners, THOs, health partners, and officers from Local Government, Revenue, and other relevant departments.
