KARACHI: Aafia Movement leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has appealed the social welfare organizations to lend assistance in securing an early release of Pakistani mother Dr Aafia Siddiqui from the US prison.

Aafia Movement Pakistan spokesmen Muhammad Ayub said that in the light of the directives of the Islamabad High Court, letters have been sent to the heads of different social welfare and human rights organizations.

He said that Global Aafia Movement chairperson Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has been struggling for the release of her sister and the oppressed daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, for last 20 years. He said in this regard a constitutional petition (3149/2015) is being heard by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

He said as per the order sheet of the court regarding hearing of this case on March 1, 2024, the court has expressed hope that the lawyer of Aafia Siddiqui, Mr. Clive Stafford Smith, would get assistance and help from different organizations. He is working in several countries on the case of Dr Aafia. He would soon file cases in more than on US courts. In this regard a huge funding is urgently needed.

Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has sent letters to chairman of Saylani Welfare International Maulana Bashir Farooqui, Edhi Foundation head Faisal Edhi, Alamgir Welfare Trust chairman Chaudhry Nisar Ahmed, Al-Khidmat CEO Naveed Ali Baig, Cheepa Welfare Association chairman Muhammad Ramzan Cheepa and JDC Foundation Pakistan chairman Zafar Abbas and the leaders of other social welfare organizations to lend help in early release and repartition of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

It may be noted that the year 2024 is an important year regarding the expected release of Dr Aafia. His lawyer Mr. Clive Stafford Smith is taking hectic efforts to ensure that Aafia Siddiqui is released by this year-end. However, the IHC has also instructed the government and its ministry of foreign affairs to take positive steps in the case of Dr Aafia.
