Islamabad, June 20, 2019 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr. Fehmida Mirza was Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution Ceremony for winning sportsmen at Rodham Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex, this afternoon. Dr. Fehmida expressed immense pleasure and congratulated the sportsmen for representing Pakistan and for winning medals in different international events. She said that the reasons responsible for deterioration of different sports in the country needed a rational analysis.
Dr. Mirza stressed the fact that after 18th amendment, Provincial governments should recognize there responsibilities to promote sports. Speaking to the occasion, she invited private sector to come and invest in sports as it is the future of Pakistan. She highlighted the importance of sports diplomacy and said “We believed in sports diplomacy and we have to focus on that. In this context we are planning a conference in near future” she said. To improve sports, the suggestions were invited from all stakeholders. The Minister also expressed resolve to ensure transparency and accountability and to provide better environment and facilities at Pakistan Sports Board for sportsmen.
Subsequently, the Federal Minister distributed the awards amongst the sportsmen who won medals in different international events. She also appreciated and acknowledged the efforts of the organizers of the event. Mr. Muhammad Iqbal, MNA, the Parliamentary Secretary to IPC, Ms. Saima Nadeem, Secretary IPC, Mr. Akbar Durrani and DG PSB Mr. Arif Ibrahim were also present in the ceremony.
