Islamabad, January 16, 2020 (PPI-OT): SAPM on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza today laid the foundation stone of new building of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). The ceremony was held in the premises of National Institute of Health Islamabad where land has been allotted for construction of the new building. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Zafar Mirza said the building will be completed in June 2021 and is part of the major initiative to revamp the authority and run it on modern lines as per international best practices.
Predictable regulation, transparency and efficiency will be the abiding principles in doing so he said. The entire system of the authority is being computerised so that utmost transparency is ensured. DRAP is moving towards robustness in operations to ensure availability of quality and safe therapeutic goods in the country.
The Authority with its wide range of operations remained housed in a number of rental premises which added difficulties to smooth operations. A dire need was felt to construct purpose built office block for the Authority. It is stipulated that a permanent base of operations will facilitate working of DRAP by providing a state-of-the-art office environment according to update regulatory requirements. The ceremony was also addressed by Parliamentary Secretary Health Dr. Nausheen Hamid, CEO DRAP Asim Rauf among others. Dr. Zafar Mirza later unveiled the plaque to lay the foundation stone of the new building.
