Due to the increasing number of encroachments in Mirpurkhas city, major highways, markets, and commercial centers are severely affected

The growing encroachment crisis in Mirpurkhas has become a major issue, severely affecting major roads, markets, and business districts. Despite multiple court orders and temporary anti-encroachment campaigns by local authorities, a permanent solution has yet to be found, exacerbating the problem day by day.

Residents of Mirpurkhas said today that densely populated areas such as Khask Pura, Madina Masjid Road, and Market Chowk, which once had 60-foot-wide roads, have turned into narrow streets due to excessive encroachments. This has caused severe traffic problems and daily challenges for pedestrians, with pathways in several areas becoming almost impassable.

The situation has worsened further with the proliferation of illegal rickshaw and chingchi stands, which obstruct traffic and create hazardous conditions. The short journey from Session Court to Market Chowk has now turned into a slow crawl, affected by obstructions and chaotic traffic on all sides, wasting time and increasing the risk of accidents.

Local traders have expressed disappointment over the district administration’s announcements of anti-encroachment campaigns, which, though initiated in response to court orders, often end after a few days, allowing encroachments to reappear. This cycle has left the issue unresolved, and the influence of the land mafia is reportedly so strong that official orders are consistently ignored.

Citizens, social groups, and business owners are demanding decisive, impartial, and sustainable measures from the Sindh government, district authorities, and the municipal corporation to tackle encroachments. They demand the clearance of illegal occupations, the restoration of sidewalks and green belts, and the enforcement of legal measures to improve traffic flow and alleviate travel difficulties faced by the community.
