ISLAMABAD:A meeting of the education ministers from across the country scheduled for today (Thursday) to decide on whether schools should stay open or not amid a surge in the Omicron cases has been postponed for later without mentioning any reason.
The postponement of the scheduled meeting was announced by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training through a notification here on Thursday. Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood and education ministers of other provinces had to decide whether the current coronavirus situation warrants the closure of schools or not, as the country continues its battle to contain the spread of Omicron.
According to the Education Ministry’s notification, the 34th meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) will be held next week. According to the statistics of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) shared on Thursday morning, Pakistan reported more than 3,019 coronavirus cases for the first time since September 15, 2021, over the last 24 hours. The positivity ratio has reached 6.12%.
