Emir of Kuwait to begin China visit tomorrow

Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will embark on an official several-day visit to China on Saturday for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The visit, the second of its kind for the emir to Beijing, holds special significance as it would be instrumental in enhancing the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly with regard to joint trade and investments.

According to Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Wang Di, the trip will see the signing of a number of agreements targeting vital sectors such as trade, energy and finance along with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Beijing’s ambitious plan for setting up a modern Silk Road connecting Asia with Europe which Kuwait intends to be part of, amid its hopes to become a global financial hub.

During his stay in Beijing, the Kuwaiti leader also plans to attend the four-day China-Arab Cooperation Forum (CACF) a platform for exchanging views between China and Arab states launched at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo in 2004.

During his last visit in mid-2009, Sheikh Sabah Al-Jaber signed a deal for the construction of an oil refinery in China, as well as other bilateral agreements in education, energy, infrastructure, sports and environmental protection.
