Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday made a telephone call to Imran Khan to congratulate him for winning Pakistan’s general election, Xinhua news agency reported.

In return, Imran Khan thanked Erdogan, calling his leadership “an example for the Islamic world,” Anadolu Agency quoted Turkish presidential sources as saying.

The Pakistani embassy in Ankara confirmed the telephone call between Erdogan and Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) or Pakistan Movement for Justice party.

“Both leaders agreed to further promote existing brotherly ties,” the tweet said.

Turkey and Pakistan enjoy exceptional relations and the new Pakistani government would further enhance them, Imran Khan was quoted by local media as saying.

Imran Khan is slated to take the oath as Pakistani prime minister before Aug 14. The PTI emerged as the single largest party in the election for the national assembly, the lower house of parliament.
