Establishment is ‘on the path of chaos and authoritarian policies’: Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh

Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh Ameer Kashif Saeed Shaikh has claimed that the establishment is “on the path of chaos and authoritarian policies,” further alleging that the move to award contracts to two media owners is meant to divide the provinces and is an “attack on national unity.”

In a statement on Sunday, the provincial party leader suggested that the rulers should heed the public’s sentiments following their defeat in the recent Sindh High Court Bar elections.

Shaikh pointed to international scrutiny of Pakistan’s internal affairs, citing concerns expressed by the UN High Commissioner regarding the 27th and 28th amendments, judicial independence, and human rights. He termed this as “proof” that “the world is closely watching the attacks on democracy and judicial freedom by the Pakistani ruling class and powerful institutions.”

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected High Court Bar officials, including President Haseeb Jamali, Vice President Arif Jakhrani, and General Secretary Madam Farida Mungrio, and called their victory “a significant message to anti-democratic forces.”

He expressed hope that the new bar leadership would continue the tradition of acting as a bridge between the legal fraternity and the judiciary. Shaikh urged them to “play their full role against authoritarian rule in the country and for the timely delivery of justice to the people,” which includes protecting the independence of the judiciary.

Reiterating his party’s stance, Shaikh said that Jamaat-e-Islami has always strived for the supremacy of democracy and the rule of law. He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced that the party “will wage a vigorous struggle against the 26th and 27th amendments.”
