Family Physicians are Key Component of Primary Healthcare: Health Minister

Lahore, November 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid appealed doctors to serve humanity with compassion and care here on Saturday. Speaking as chief guest on International Family Medicine Family Con Conference organized by the Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan at a local hotel, the Health Minister said that doctors are referred to as a prophetic profession.

The conference was attended by Vice-Chancellors, Teaching faculty members, family physicians, doctors and delegates. Dr. Tariq Mian welcomed the Minister in the ceremony. The Health Minister cut the cake and addressed the gathering. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Yasmin Rashid said, “I congratulate Academy of Family Physicians for organizing this great event.

My mother was a general practitioner and she played key role in making me a gynaecologist. We must be grateful to Almighty Allah in all circumstances. Doctors are referred to a prophetic profession. The ink of a teacher is equated with the blood of a martyr. I am proud of being a doctor.

I feel great to see development in the medical profession. No sight is as pleasing as the joy of a recovered patient leaving government hospital. For the first time in history, Punjab has hired record number of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and male nurses. More than 3000 doctors have been promoted.

The department was operating with 50% of its sanctioned strength when we took over. As many as 11 new hospitals are being developed in Punjab. The Mother and Child Block at Ganga Ram shall be complete by May 2022. Sehat Sahulat card facility shall be given to all 29.3 million families of Punjab.

The government is spending Rs. 323 billion on the Sehat Sahulat Card program. I believe family physicians are key component of the primary healthcare system. I am first a member of the doctor’s community and then a Minister. We are effectively battling Corona and Dengue Pandemic.”
