Fertilizer vehicles seized, returned after getting illegal gratification

MADEJI:Large number of farmers reached the police station here on Sunday when they heard that a Mazda filled with Urea had been captured by Madeji police. They were seen crying for fertilizer.

SHO Abdul Rahman Dharejo when contacted said that during routine check up on Larkana-Sukkur Road they spotted a Mazda loaded with Urea bags. They captured the vehicle and brought it to the police station, he added. He said the urea will be handed over to the agriculture officer who will distribute it among the peasants on government rates.

On the other hand, tillers said that dealers are openly selling urea at higher rates but nobody has so far taken any action against them despite their hundreds of complaints and tall claims of the government officials. They alleged that police, dealers and agricultural officers are themselves involved in black-marketing of fertilizers and distributing two bags per tiller which is a barbaric act as they very badly need urea for their standing wheat and other crops.

They demanded stern legal action against hoarders, black marketers and profiteers so that open sale of urea could be ensured for better crop yields. Meanwhile, sources claimed that Madeji police handed over the loaded Mazda to the dealer for Rs20,000 after receiving a phone call from an influential person and the peasants were seen rubbing their hands and heads.
