Finance Minister vows to keep imports, Current Account Deficit under control

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has expressed the government’s resolve to keep imports and Current Account Deficit under control.

In a tweet on Wednesday, he said there has been twenty percent reduction in imports during current month as compared to corresponding period last year. He appreciated the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) measures in this regard. He explained that the imports to July 18 have been $2.6billion, 20% below last year. We will end the month at $5.5billion, he added.

The Finance Minister said, “The runaway imports from last year have come under control this month thanks to SBP measures. Will continue with these measures in the near term to ensure imports and Current Account Deficit remain under control”.
