Five Year Plan to focus on sustained economic development: Federal Minister

Islamabad, October 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar has said that no country can progress unless its foundation is based on rule of law. He stated that the present Government is committed to focus on human resource development, good governance, poverty reduction, restructuring of state institutions, enhancement of tax to GDP ratio, agriculture development, social sector and energy generation. He emphasized that these elements should be factored in next five year plan. The Federal Minister said this while chairing a meeting on 12th Five Year Plan here at the Ministry on Tuesday.

Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan and senior officials of the Ministry were present in the meeting. The Minister underscored the need that Five Year Plan should be realistic and contribute to real economic growth. He noted that previous governments’ priorities were different whereas the incumbent government is particularly focusing on socio-economic development for the uplift of the people.

He underlined that economic experts of the ministry would have to work hard for formulating a comprehensive strategy under next Five Year Plan envisaging all aspects for attaining sustained economic growth. The Minister stressed that statistics and figures should be based on facts while formulating five year plan. The Minister noted that Pakistan’s economy is lagging behind Bangladesh and called for reviewing the factors behind it to address the challenges. He further stated that we should focus on how to increase our income and achieve all set targets while working on the Plan.
