Karachi, August 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):Mr. Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, President FPCCI, has constituted Flood Disaster Management Committee (FDMC) of FPCCI with a personal contribution of PKR. 5 million to kick-start the relief efforts to save the precious lives in the prevailing existential crisis arising out of rains and floods of astronomically unprecedented proportions.
President FPCCI expressed his gratitude towards business, industry and trade community of Pakistan for their whole-hearted response to his call; as FPCCI was aiming to generate PKR. 50 million in contributions, but the response has made him confident that FPCCI will be able to pool much more than that milestone.
Mr. Irfan Iqbal Sheikh apprised that FDMC of FPCCI will strive to provide at least 2000 tents; coordinate the distribution and delivery of already pledged medical supplies from various pharmaceutical companies and donate to credible relief organizations working in the field across Pakistan – in governmental and non-governmental sectors.
FPCCI Chief explained that flood affectees will need essential shelter and sustenance supplies for many months to come; including, but not limited to water-proof tents; linen sheets; clean drinking water; dry eatables, e.g. roasted black channa, dates and biscuits; packaged milk and juices; formula milk powder for children of various ages; stitched or ready-to-wear clothes; plastic shoes; sanitary pads; raw food items such as rice, flour and lentils for people stuck in homes due to flooding outside; medical supplies for elderly, sick, mothers and children and dry fodder for the cattle as well.
Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo, immediate past President of FPCCI, proposed that each office of the apex body should be given a target to better plan the relief effort and, that can subsequently be extended to the member trade bodies and chambers of the federation with their consultation. Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, a former President FPCCI, recalled that the apex body has recently raised funds successfully for the earthquake affectees of Afghanistan; and, their government has acknowledged the contribution in a heart-warming letter.
