Government Must Ensure Ample Sugar Availability: Nizam-e-Mustafa Party

Dr. Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, Chairman of Nizam-e-Mustafa Party and former Federal Minister of Petroleum, expressed concern over rising inflation and sugar shortages in Pakistan. Addressing a public gathering, he stated that citizens are already facing escalating prices of essential commodities like petroleum, gas, electricity, and medicines. The persistent sugar shortage and rising prices across the country are further exacerbating public suffering.

Dr. Tayyab explained that despite ample sugar reserves, Pakistan exported the commodity in anticipation of foreign exchange earnings, against expert recommendations. This decision led to domestic shortages and unaffordable prices for ordinary citizens. Now, the country is forced to import sugar again, with no one taking responsibility and a blame game ensuing. He stressed that controlling sugar cartels has become a major hurdle for the administration and demanded strict action against those responsible for the crisis after a thorough investigation. He urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure sugar availability at affordable prices for domestic consumption.

Furthermore, Dr. Tayyab called upon current and former leaders to evaluate their performance against public promises before making tall claims. He emphasized the need for a robust plan to address public concerns.
