The Government of Balochistan has announced a strict, zero-tolerance policy against illegal trawling under the major plan to make Pasni Fish Harbour fully functional, with Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti vowing to protect the rights of fishermen “at all costs”.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting held today, chaired by the Chief Minister, which focused on the restoration of this strategic coastal facility.
To ensure the project’s viability, the provincial administration has ordered a comprehensive feasibility study. Chief Minister Bugti directed that the report be completed by May and submitted to the government.
During the meeting, Secretary Fisheries Tariq Qamar and other relevant officials gave a detailed briefing on the harbour’s current situation and capabilities.
The Chief Minister emphasized the expected economic benefits of the initiative, stating, “The restoration of Pasni Fish Harbour will boost the local economy and create new employment opportunities.”
The important meeting was attended by Member of Provincial Assembly for Gwadar, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, and Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan.
Additional Chief Secretary for Development and Planning, Zahid Saleem, and Additional Chief Secretary for Home, Hamza Shafqat, also participated, highlighting the government’s multi-sectoral approach to the project.
