Government patronage behind lawlessness in Sindh, Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sindh Ameer Kashif Saeed Shaikh has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation across the province. He cited reports in which police vehicles were found involved in smuggling arms and drugs for dacoits and condemned the government’s failure to provide security to citizens, despite a hefty budget for law and order.

Speaking at an event in honor of journalists today, Shaikh stressed that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), after 18 years in power, has failed to establish peace from Karachi to Kashmore, leaving the public in a constant state of insecurity.

He highlighted the contradiction that in addition to the existing budget of billions of rupees, the cabinet recently approved 56 crore rupees for the elimination of dacoits, while kidnappings, robberies, and deadly tribal feuds have made life miserable for the residents of Larkana Division in particular.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader demanded immediate and effective action to dismantle the network of dacoits, oppressive feudal lords, and “black sheep” within the police force, which he described as a prerequisite for restoring peace in Sindh.

Shaikh also criticized the recent meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and MQM leader Khalid Siddiqui, calling it a precursor to “plundering Sindh’s resources once again.” He accused both parties of misleading the public by playing the “Sindh card” and “Mohajir card” while being “equal partners” in the province’s destruction.

He argued that government oppression and the deep-rooted feudal system have enslaved the people of Sindh, leaving them impoverished and deprived of basic necessities such as clean drinking water, education, and health, despite the abundance of natural resources like oil, gas, and coal.

On local matters, Shaikh condemned the attempted encroachment on parks in Larkana named after historical figures Maulana Jan Muhammad Abbasi and Qazi Fazlullah, calling it “tantamount to tampering with history” and paid tribute to the legal community for foiling the land grab attempt.

The provincial ameer announced that Jamaat-e-Islami, led nationally by Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, will launch a vigorous protest movement after Eid to challenge the government’s “anti-people” decisions and advocate for public issues, which will include sit-ins in major cities.

The event was attended by Provincial Naib Ameer Professor Nizamuddin Memon, Deputy General Secretary Imdadullah Bijarani, Information Secretary Mujahid Channa, and District Ameer Advocate Nadar Ali Khoso, among other local leaders and members of the journalist community.
