(Health): PRCS launches free COVID-19 tests for educational institutions

Karachi: In order to curb the spreading of Covid-19 and ensure the safety of the staff and students, the Sindh Branch of Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) has launched a free COVID-19 test facility for educational institutions in Karachi.

According to the statement released by PRC-Sindh Branch on Wednesday, following the Sindh government’s announcement to reopen educational institutions in the province, PRCS Sindh provided free COVID 19 tests to the staff of educational institutes. Trained staff set up a mobile collection units to collect samples from various schools and universities in Karachi. Initially, in three days, samples for the COVID-19 tests were taken from 100 staff members of Graceful Grammar School Baldia Town and 50 staff members of Bahria University. School staff and parents appreciated and praised the Pakistan Red Crescent for this unique facility.

The Chairperson PRCS, Ms Shahnaz S Hamid said that the PRC teams had been working tirelessly to play a significant role in the ongoing national efforts to overcome the spread of the COVID-19 in the country through a robust synergized response.

She said that when the coronavirus epidemic was on the rise in Sindh, the PRC had fulfilled its promise to provide a free COVID-19 testing facility in Karachi, especially for those who could not afford the cost of the Covid-19 test. “Now Pakistan Red Crescent is offering free COVID-19 test facility in various schools, colleges, and universities of Karachi, which would serve as a stepping stone to accelerate the prevention from Coronavirus and ensure the health safety of staff and students”, uttered by Chairperson Shahnaz S Hamid. She also urged school management that they should apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to avoid the spread of novel coronavirus disease.
