HEC Spearheads Initiative to Rectify Data Inaccuracies in Higher Education Sector

In a significant move to address critical gaps in educational planning, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has launched a focused initiative to ensure the authenticity and reliability of data from universities and affiliated colleges across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to HEC’s information today, a two-day workshop, conducted by the HEC’s Higher Education Data Repository (HEDR) Division, concluded at the commission”s regional centre, concentrating on elevating the skills of designated representatives from the province”s higher education institutions (HEIs).

The training focused on developing the technical competencies required for accurate, consistent, and prompt submission of institutional statistics for the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25.

During the inaugural session, Dr. Bashir Khan, the head of the HEDR Division, described dependable and punctual information as the “backbone of effective planning, informed decision making, and policy formulation,” underscoring the urgent need to create a modern, integrated, and data-driven academic system.

The workshop”s first day was dedicated specifically to data from affiliated colleges, with the HEDR team providing personalized technical support. They addressed institution-specific challenges and offered immediate troubleshooting to help complete the data submission process.

This direct engagement allowed institutional representatives to pinpoint remaining gaps, achieve greater clarity on reporting standards, and accelerate their data submission timelines.

Officials stated the initiative has substantially reinforced the data management capabilities of universities and their affiliated colleges, reaffirming the HEDR Division”s commitment to advancing the National Higher Education Statistics Framework and fostering evidence-based policy across the nation”s tertiary education landscape.
