Law enforcement personnel were on high alert across the federal capital on Sunday as authorities implemented extensive security protocols at churches to safeguard the Christian community during worship services.
The security enhancement was enacted following specific directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who ordered a comprehensive security plan for the city”s places of worship.
According to the SSP Operations, all relevant police stations were instructed to re-evaluate existing security measures in their jurisdictions and implement what were described as “foolproof” arrangements to prevent any potential incidents.
The heightened measures included more stringent checks at church entrances and exits. Surveillance was bolstered through the use of walk-through security gates and a network of CCTV cameras to monitor the areas.
Senior police officials conducted on-site inspections at various churches to oversee the deployment and provide further instructions to the officers on duty. The security detail included female police officers to assist families and maintain a secure atmosphere for all attendees.
The SSP Operations reiterated the force’s commitment, stating, “The protection of life and property of all minorities is our top priority.” He affirmed that the police service is fully prepared to handle any untoward incident.
Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or by calling the emergency helpline, Pucar-15, to facilitate a swift response.
