Lahore, September 25, 2020 (PPI-OT): Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani said that Safe City is a masterpiece of information technology in terms of traffic management and crime control in accordance with the principles of modern policing to protect the lives and property of citizens, maintain law and order and it should be used more effectively to eliminate irregularities of traffic rules. He further said that by making full use of the monitoring of CCTV cameras installed on all major highways and important places of Lahore, not only street crime could be further reduced but also traffic accidents could be reduced by minimizing traffic violations. The officers of Lahore Police, Traffic Police and Safe City Authority should work together to protect the lives of the citizens and achieve the best results with the best possible coordination.
He further said that Chief Traffic Officer Lahore and Safe City Authority officers should formulate more effective strategies to maintain uninterrupted flow of traffic in the city while Dolphin and Patrol Force officers should sit in Safe City Authority and keep close liaison with the monitoring from time to time so that they can help the needy citizens in the best possible way. He expressed these views while issuing instructions to the officers on a visit to Safe City Authority at Qurban Lines today. MD Safe City Additional IG Rao Sardar and COO Safe City Authority Muhammad Kamran Khan and other officers were also present on the occasion.
MD Safe Cities Authority Rao Sardar Ali Khan briefed IG Punjab about the work of various departments besides e-challaning and traffic management system while IG Punjab from Safe Cities Authority’s Operation and Monitoring Center viewed various places of the city. IG Punjab also spoke to the citizens who came to get the video of Safe cities cameras and inquired about the problems faced by them and the attitude of the personnel. IG Punjab was also apprised of the results achieved through the joint efforts of Traffic Control, Police and Safe City Authority.
IG Punjab, while issuing instructions to the officers, said that if they had committed irresponsibility and negligence while on duty then strict action against the personnel should not be delayed at all so that they do not show any negligence or carelessness while on duty. Regarding the acquisition of video by Safe City cameras, IG Punjab directed that when investigation officers need video footage with respect to investigation then there should be no delay in the provision of video footage whereas overall working of the police force should be improved through effective coordination of different formations. On this occasion, IG Punjab visited various departments of Safe City and asked the staff about their duties and directed them to perform their duties as per the SOPs issued to them. At the end of the visit, a commemorative shield was presented to IG Punjab by Safe City Authority.
