IHC dismisses 13 cases against PTI’s leader

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed 13 cases filed against PTI former Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and leader Ali Amin Gandapur.

Ali Amin Gandapur was booked in over a dozen cases for violence during the May 25, 2022 PTI march and protest against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to disqualify party chief Imran Khan.

After hearing both the sides, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri accepted the petition of Mr Gandapur for the dismissal of cases against him. However, two of the pleas were withdrawn by the lawyer of Gandapur. Station House Officers and Investigating Officers of about 15 Police Stations of the federal capital appeared before the court.

The Islamabad Police on May 28, 2022 had registered cases against Imran Khan and other senior leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar following riots in the federal capital during the march. Ali Amin Gandapur, Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, and Raja Khurram Nawaz were also named in the first information reports (FIRs).

The cases were registered for blocking of roads, disrupting state affairs, attacking police personnel and damaging property. The cases were also filed against PTI leaders after they protested against the ECP’s decision to disqualify the former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Toshakhana reference.
