IOK authorities bar Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid

Srinagar, July 13, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities barred Friday prayers at Srinagar Jamia Masjid, today, by enforcing restrictions in old city parts to prevent a march called by the Joint Resistance Leadership to the martyrs’ graveyard at Naqashband Sahib. The Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq taking to Twitter said that he tried to defy curfew but was arrested and stopped from paying tributes to July 13, 1931 martyrs killed by Dogra troops.

A huge contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF personnel was deployed in parts of Srinagar in view of the JRL call for march towards Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqashband Sahib (RA) shrine. Meanwhile, the authorities today didn’t allow people to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Trehgam Kupwara and Jamia Majid Chekpora Kupwara. Soon after the Friday prayers, clashes were also reported from Trehgam town between youth and Indian forces. In Kralpora, a group of youth took out a protest rally against the killing of Khalid Ghaffar. Khalid was killed in Indian army firing on Wednesday evening.
