IOK court quashes PSA detention of Mushtaq Veeri, 4 others

Srinagar, June 04, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court has quashed detention order of prominent cleric and Vice President of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri who was booked under draconian Public Safety Act in March this year. The court over the past 10 days also quashed detention orders of Tariqad Tantray, Irfan Ashraf Dar and Akhter Rasool Lone, all from Reban Sopore, and Ahmad Dar of Old Town Baramulla.

A bench of Justice Rashid Ali Dar quashed the detention orders after hearing advocate Shafaqat Nazir on behalf of the detainees and the administration through its counsel. Mushtaq Veeri was booked under PSA after District Magistrate Islamabad passed an order in this regard on 12 March this year. He was arrested from his home on February 22 and lodged in Bijbehera police station. Veeri was later shifted to district jail Mattan in Islamabad district and then to Kathua Jail in Jammu.
