The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has formally issued notices to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and government agencies regarding a petition to delete his social media posts, a move that coincides with the federal government actively engaging with the X platform to suspend the incarcerated leader’s account.
The legal challenge was initiated by citizen Ghulam Murtaza, whose counsel, Barrister Zafarullah, argued before Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir for the removal of what he described as ‘malicious posts’ from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s official X profile. The petition seeks not only the deletion of specific content but also the complete blockage of the account.
In response to the plea, the court has demanded replies within two weeks from all involved parties, including Imran Khan, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, and the National Cyber Crime Agency.
Separately, the government has confirmed its own efforts to curb the former premier’s online presence. Minister of State for Law, Barrister Aqeel Malik, announced that communication is underway with officials at X. He noted that an inquiry is in progress to identify who is currently managing the social media profile. “Further evidence is being collected to determine who is managing or operating the account,” Malik stated, assuring that all actions are proceeding within legal bounds.
Adding another layer to the scrutiny, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is set to interrogate the PTI founder once more. The agency has reportedly prepared a 21-point questionnaire for Khan, with the future course of its probe depending on his written answers. Sources within the NCCIA indicated that their team had previously met with Khan twice in Adiala Jail but claimed the former prime minister was not fully cooperative during those sessions.
