Spokesperson for Mayor Karachi Moazzam Qureshi today severely criticized Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), alleging that the party has “a PhD in throwing dust in the eyes of citizens”.
Qureshi suggested that due to its focus on protests, Jamaat-e-Islami should change its name to “Jamaat-e-Ihtejaji”.
Qureshi claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami’s leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman is solving problems in Mansoora while leaving his own Union Council (UC) abandoned.
The Mayor’s spokesperson said that this same alleged policy of neglect is also being implemented by Jamaat-e-Islami’s town chairmen.
In a direct challenge, Qureshi demanded that Jamaat-e-Islami’s town chairmen present a public account of all government funds received so far.
He further added that Jamaat-e-Islami’s officials have “vowed not to work in the city”.
According to the spokesperson, Jamaat-e-Islami’s criticism is due to being “afraid” of the ongoing development works in the city by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
