JI IOK terms crackdown on its leadership political vengeance

Srinagar, February 25, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jamaat-e-Islami has denounced the ongoing arrest spree by local Indian forces across the valley and termed it murder of democracy. Spokesman for Jamaat-e-Islami in a statement in Srinagar said the puppet administration is trying to appease BJP and other communal forces and has unleashed atmosphere of terror across the valley wherein hundreds of young and old have been detained under baseless grounds.

He said police have arrested hundreds of Jamaat members including its top leadership during the last two days. “On Sunday Jamaat chief Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz has been produced before District Magistrate, Budgam, who sent him to Srinagar central jail under judicial custody till March 2,” he added. He appealed to human rights groups, United Nations Organization and OIC to intervene and use their influence to stop the lawlessness at the hands of Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Jamaat Deputy Chief, Maulana Ahmad Ullah Parray (Makki) was also detained by police along with a renowned religious scholar, Peer Noor-ud-Din. “Besides this, dozens of leadership from south to north have also been arrested. National Conference leader Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri in a statement in Srinagar demanded immediate release of Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat Ahle Hadees activists. He termed these arrests arbitrary and said it does not augur well for the territory.
