Jordan’s King to Receive Pakistan’s Highest Civilian Award During Strategic Visit

King Abdullah II of Jordan is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Saturday for a pivotal two-day state visit, during which he will be conferred with the nation’s highest civilian award in a bid to substantially deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Foreign Office confirmed the monarch’s visit, which will take place from November 15-16, underscoring the “longstanding, fraternal relations” and a mutual desire to elevate bilateral engagement.

During his stay, the Jordanian king is slated to hold meetings with Pakistan’s president and prime minister. The discussions will encompass the full spectrum of bilateral ties, with a pronounced focus on enhancing strategic collaboration between the two allied nations.

A statement from the Foreign Office noted that the high-profile trip will “serve to further strengthen the strategic direction of Pakistan-Jordan relations and place them on a higher trajectory, encompassing a comprehensive and broad-based partnership.”

A special investiture ceremony will be held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, where the prestigious civilian honor will be bestowed upon King Abdullah in recognition of his significant contributions to fostering strong bilateral ties.

Pakistan and Jordan share a history of close diplomatic relations, with Jordan being the fifth nation to recognize Pakistan after its independence, establishing formal ties in August 1948. The two have often engaged in consultations on key regional issues.

The economic and cultural dimensions of the relationship are also notable, with bilateral trade reaching $46.58 million in 2023. Additionally, a community of nearly 16,000 Pakistanis currently resides in Jordan.

Officials anticipate that the visit will further consolidate the enduring Pakistan-Jordan relationship and contribute to expanding the scope and spectrum of mutual cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres.
