Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has announced a comprehensive plan to computerize all land records in the Orangi Town pilot project. The initiative aims to revoke illegal encroachments and fake leases, ensuring that ST plots fulfill their intended public service roles. The move underscores a commitment to adhere to legal protocols and improve facilities for Orangi Town residents.

According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab made these comments during a meeting with officials from the Orangi Town Pilot Project. Attendees included Municipal Commissioner KMC, Afzal Zaidi, Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, and Project Director Faisal Rizvi. The Mayor directed officials to digitize records to prevent alterations and forge-proof government documents while addressing pending legal cases.

The Mayor highlighted that 40% of the 193 ST plots in Orangi Town are occupied illegally. He called for their immediate clearance and urged that these plots be used for welfare purposes such as playgrounds, parks, mosques, community centers, and educational institutions. He emphasized that these facilities are a fundamental right for citizens.

Moreover, Mayor Wahab instructed that cleared plots be auctioned publicly and managed according to established regulations. He urged officials to withstand external pressures and interference in land-related matters.

Mayor Wahab also mentioned potential bonuses for well-performing Orangi Town Pilot Project staff, acknowledging the difficulties faced by Orangi Town residents. He stressed that any officer found guilty of fraudulent activities would face removal and legal action to uphold integrity and transparency in municipal operations.
