Karachi Mayor Assures Foolproof Security for Muharram Events

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, today stated that all relevant institutions would remain fully active to ensure the peaceful conduct of Majalis and processions and to provide the best possible facilities to mourners during Muharram-ul-Haram.

He said that the city administration, municipal bodies, law enforcement agencies, and religious scholars from various schools of thought were working together through mutual consultation to resolve issues and maintain an atmosphere of peace, harmony, and religious tolerance during Muharram.

He emphasized that inter-sect unity and mutual respect were the need of the hour. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting regarding Muharram-ul-Haram arrangements held on Friday at the KMC Building.

The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffar, Managing Director of the Water Corporation Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Managing Director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Tariq Nizamani, departmental heads of KMC, religious scholars, spiritual leaders, and a large number of procession organizers.

Wahab, said that people belonging to all schools of thought must play their role in promoting peace, brotherhood, and tolerance while respecting each other’s sentiments. He assured the participants that issues identified by religious scholars would be resolved on a priority basis and that visible results of administrative measures would be witnessed across the city.

On this occasion, religious scholars informed the meeting that uninterrupted electricity supply must be ensured at Imambargahs, majalis venues, and procession routes from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram. The Mayor directed the concerned institutions to take all necessary measures in this regard so that mourners would not face any difficulties.

The Mayor Karachi further stated that special attention was being given to the removal of encroachments from procession routes, road repairs, cleanliness, sewerage improvement, and other municipal matters. Muazzam Qureshi has been assigned the responsibility of focal person for Muharram arrangements.

He added that Rangers, Police, District Administration, Fire Brigade, Rescue Services, and other relevant agencies were in close coordination and were working under a joint strategy to ensure foolproof arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Mayor Karachi said that it was the administration’s responsibility to provide every possible facility to participants of Majalis and mourning processions being held in different parts of the city. Emergency measures were also being taken to address water supply and sewerage-related issues.

He informed the meeting that immediate instructions had been issued on the spot to the concerned officers for the prompt resolution of all issues highlighted by the religious scholars during the meeting.
