Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab today laid the foundation stone for revovation of sports complex in Baldia Town with a cost of Rs1.4 billion.
Addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Wahab strongly criticized the federal government for overlooking the city in the recent budget allocations. He urged the Prime Minister to rectify this oversight and fulfill his promises by releasing Rs 100 billion for Karachi’s development.
Mayor Wahab highlighted the lack of federal attention towards Karachi, which is not only Pakistan’s economic hub but also an area facing numerous challenges that require immediate intervention from higher authorities. He specifically called on federal ministers and local political figures to advocate for the city’s needs.
Wahab underscored the significance of the Rs1.4 billion sports complex renovation project that aims to rejuvenate Baldia Town with modern sports facilities, including multiple sports grounds and a family park. This project is seen as a step towards fulfilling the promises made by the People’s Party to use their powers for the public’s interest.
The Mayor pointed out that the federal and provincial representatives of the area need to utilize their offices effectively for public service, a principle he claims the People”s Party adheres to rigorously. He expressed his commitment to continuing these efforts despite the challenges, emphasizing that developmental initiatives like the new sports complex and the augmentation of the K-IV water project are crucial for Karachi’s revival.
Wahab also reiterated the city’s urgent need for federal funds and official clearances to proceed with other critical infrastructure projects, such as the construction of a bridge in Malir. He voiced his concerns about the potential stagnation of progress if the federal government remains unresponsive to these legitimate requests.
The ceremony, attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, MPA Liaquat Askani, and other dignitaries, was not only a platform to announce new developments but also an opportunity for the Mayor to publicly hold the federal government accountable for its commitments to Karachi. He concluded by stating his unwavering representation of Karachi and his determination to oversee the city’s development through the upcoming provincial and KMC budgets.
