Karachi Water Board has created a crisis presenting a scene of Karbala: Pasban

The ongoing water shortage in Karachi has reached a critical level, reminiscent of historical hardships, as citizens face severe shortages even during the sacred month of Muharram. President of Pasban Democratic Party Karachi, Abdul Hakeem Qaid, today expressed intense anger over this crisis, which he labels a deliberately created crisis exacerbated by the negligence of the Sindh government and Karachi Water Corporation.

In a city where water availability should have been a certainty, a clear collusion between the authorities and the so-called tanker mafia has thrown millions into distress. Qaid highlighted that the frequent breaking of major water supply lines is a worrying trend, while the lines provided to tanker operations remain unaffected, indicating manipulation for profit.

The effects of this water shortage are far-reaching, severely impacting vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and the sick, during the intense heat. Despite public outcries, local authorities and administration appear indifferent, leaving citizens with no choice but to demand accountability.

Qaid has called for a comprehensive forensic audit of Karachi’s water distribution system and judicial investigation into the recurring issues with supply lines. He urges decisive action against those responsible for perpetuating this crisis, as well as the completion of critical projects like K-IV, which have been stalled due to mismanagement and alleged corruption.

Promises of development are often overshadowed by delays and incompetence, leaving Karachi’s residents weary of unfulfilled promises. Qaid warned that if no action is taken, a series of public protests may ensue, as access to clean water is a fundamental right that should not be sacrificed for financial gains. The Sindh government faces growing pressure to fulfill its responsibilities and provide a sustainable solution to this pressing issue.
