The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a significant infrastructure renewal programme, allocating approximately Rs5.54 billion to overhaul 26 key internal roads throughout the metropolis.

The extensive project, covering a total distance of 68 kilometres, is intended to upgrade urban mobility and modernise the city’s infrastructure as part of a sustainable development outlook.

This initiative is in accordance with the Sindh Government’s vision to improve connectivity and provide safer, more fluid travel for citizens. The selected routes are described as vital connectors between residential areas, commercial hubs, and major city arteries used by a large volume of daily commuters.

Acting on directives from the Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the scheme has been prioritised for swift execution. Tenders have been issued and the implementation process has commenced to expedite on-ground works and minimise public disruption.

The reconstruction work spans multiple districts and towns. The roads selected include Olympian Islahuddin Road, Naqash Kazmi Road, Sardar Ali Sabri Road, Sebha Akhtar Road, UP More Road, Peer Bazar Road, Al-Amna Road, Rahmina Road, multiple blocks of North Nazimabad, Sakhi Hassan Street, 19-D Road, Road No. 04 and 05, Badar Chowk Road, ZMC Road, Fakir Colony via Mominabad, Mesham Lea Road, Mission Road, Chand Bibi Road, Jinnah Square, Liaquat Market, Khokhrapar Dal Khana Road, Liaquat Road, Mehran Depot Road, and Hashim Raza Road.

The total cost for the rehabilitation of these specific routes is stated as Rs5,530 million.

According to the KMC, the roads were carefully chosen based on assessments of traffic volume, public usage, and their importance to daily commuting and economic activity. The upgrades are expected to improve road surfaces, enhance durability, and contribute to better traffic flow and safety.

The mayor added that the KMC remains committed to upgrading the city”s infrastructure and addressing civic challenges with the continued support of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and the Sindh Government. He stated this initiative reflects the party”s commitment to the city and its residents.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab reiterated that his leadership is focused on delivering visible improvements across the city.
