Kupwara shuts to remember victims of 1994 massacre

Srinagar, January 27, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, today, to remember the martyrs of a deadly massacre carried out by Indian troops on this day in 1994. All shops and other business establishments in the district remained closed while transport was off the road in the town and its adjoining areas. Indian troops had brutally killed 27 innocent Kashmiris on this day in 1994 to punish the people for observing shutdown on Indian Republic Day, the 26th January, in the town.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Tral town to mourn the killing of a youth on Saturday by Indian troops during cordon and search operation and also to mark the fifth martyrdom anniversary of noted freedom activist, Abid Khan.

Abid Khan alias Hamza, a resident of Handoora village of Tral, was martyred along with his associate, Sheraz Ahmed Dar, by the troops during a cordon and search operation in his native area on January 27 in 2015.
