Literacy Day: 21,000 children are out of school in Larkana

LARKANA: As many as 216,000 students are enrolled in primary schools, 72,000 are registered from 6th to Xth classes and 21,000 children are out of schools in Larkana district.

This was disclosed by participants of an awareness rally taken out from Government Pilot Higher Secondary School Larkana on Wednesday to mark the International Literacy Day. The rally was joined by Akhtar Hussain Korejo, District Education Officer (Secondary), Anis-ur-Rahman Jalbani DEO (Primary), teachers, students and others.

They said: “Education is free from primary to middle classes in government schools but despite that the parents of out of school children are not bringing their kids to schools to get education which is surprising.” They urged them to enroll their siblings in the schools without loss of further time so that they could also be able to educate themselves, learn and be able to take part in the development of the country in future.

Separately, teachers under the banner of Primary Teachers Association also observed World Literacy Day. Their central leader Haji Shafi Muhammad said that it was very sad to see little children selling food items, pushing carts, working in garages and driving rickshaws to earn bread and butter for their families in this unprecedented price hike era instead of going to schools.

He said it was the duty of every citizen to bring them to educational institutions so that they could be part of development. He said without education, development of nations is impossible, adding they all should make efforts to improve the standard of education in the province which should be their priority and fundamental duty. He said girls’ education should be given extra care because an educated girl would educate the entire family. He also highlighted issues of the primary teachers which needed to be resolved forthwith.
